Eating Disorders
Eating disorders, in my opinion, are the most challenging thing to recover from, for one basic reason: Unlike drugs or alcohol, all of us need food to live. We cannot avoid, so we have to learn to befriend it. It is our job to work together to renegotiate the contract you have with food, exercise, and yourself in order to help you write a new contract that is sustainable and self-loving.
How I Can Help You Recover
Having been in recovery myself for most of my life, I am painfully aware of how omni-present the obsessive, nagging voice is that seems to take over. It rules your life; it robs of you your desire to be social, it makes you obsess over food, your weight, the number on the scale. It can make you prioritize a workout over spending time with your loved ones. It becomes your best friend and your worst enemy. Together we help you understand the voice in your head; who it’s trying to please and what it’s most afraid of. By recognizing that this voice is merely a scared part of your entire Self, we can help you learn to communicate with it, rather than just continue to allow it to take over in the driver’s seat. We can help you gain control by gaining understanding and perspective. But before you can recover, you have to know why it’s there and what purpose it’s trying to serve. There is always something it’s trying to distract you from, by keeping you hyper-focused on your food, calories, weight, etc. We will work together to figure out these answers to get you to a better, more balanced place.
